Our Heritage

Beggs & Partners through the years

After almost 60 years Beggs & Partners continues to be the best in the business

Beggs & Partners is founded

Founded in 1960 in Great Patrick Street in Belfast by the late William Beggs and his 'Partners' - Stanley McMullen, David Moorhead and Arthur Robinson with just 8 employees. William's eldest son Norman starts in 1966.

William's other son Brian starts work in the company in 1975. A new branch is opened in Ballymena in 1975. B&P Belfast has started to take over the surrounding buildings in Great Patrick Street as our continued growth means we've outgrown the original premises.

Consolidation of the 2 branches during 80's - now up to around 50 employees. The Great Patrick Street building is rotated 90 degrees with a new trade counter and more warehousing space due to major road building work as the Westlink is created in 1983.

Ballymena also gets an extension to expand the retail showroom and warehousing space.

Founder William retires in 1987 leaving Norman as Managing Director.

Another new branch & 3rd generation

Newtownards is opened in 1990 to make branch number 3. William's grandson and Norman's son, Ian, starts in 1991 to make the 3rd generation in the family business.

The first '25 year' club event is held to celebrate and reward employees with over 25 years working in B&P. By this stage however some employees have been with the firm for over 30 years!.

Maghera & Portadown Open

Maghera is opened in 2001 to make branch number 4 and spreads our reach in NI further west towards the Derry / Londonderry region. Brian's son, Neil also starts in the company in 2004 and luckily by this point the orange paint job is replaced with a more restrained light blue. Portadown is opened in 2007.

50 years anniversary

Beggs and Partners celebrates 50 years of business in 2010! To mark the occasion, a special anniversary brochure was launched - you can download a copy from here

Our most recent branch, Lisburn is opened in 2013 inside the House of VicRyn complex to make branch number 6.

A Rebrand

To reflect us keeping up with the times despite our long history, we went through a rebranding process in 2014.

We continue to strive to give our customers a mix of great service, pricing and availability through the current tough market climate and hope to do so for many years to come.
